What's New for this Current Version of the Subaru Outback?

The new Outback gets some changes for the current model year, including a more prominent grille, altered headlamps, and a new front bumper. Wider-field-of-view cameras add to the vehicle's driver-aid features car buyers near Nashua will appreciate.

The Premium trim level offers the most standard features for the money and available elements. The vehicle only comes with the base 182 horsepower four-cylinder engine, or you can upgrade to the turbocharged 260 horsepower engine for more power.

Heated front seats, an 11.6-inch touchscreen, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, extra USB connections, and accessories not available on the base model are all included on the Outback Premium. The more economical package consists of the following:

  • Passive entry operating on a push-button start
  • A hands-free power liftgate
  • Blind-spot monitoring

Performance Specs

Two powertrains come standard with the new Outback, according to trim level:

  • Base through Touring trims receive power from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque.
  • XT and Wilderness trims have a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque.

Both pair with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and have an all-wheel driveline. With the 2.5-liter engine and all-wheel drive, drivers will enjoy a combined fuel economy rating of 28 miles per gallon based on 26 miles per gallon in the city and 32 on the highway.

The Limited, Outback Onyx Edition and Touring trim levels offer an optional upgrade engine known as the XT, but in the new Subaru Outback Wilderness, it's the standard engine. In comparison, the 2.4-liter engine gets an estimated 26 miles per gallon combined, based on 23 miles per gallon around the city and 30 on the highway.

Exterior and Interior

The new Subaru Outback interior is functional and offers great seating height for improved road views. Apart from the base model, all Outback trims come with dual-zone climate control and heated front seats to keep you warmer when driving around Merrimack on colder days.

More luxurious top trim levels come with additional amenities like leather upholstery, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, a heated steering wheel, and heated rear seats offering passengers an additional 1.4 inches of legroom compared to its predecessor.

Outside, the new Outback features

  • Standard: LED Steering Responsive Headlights
  • Outback Wilderness LED fog lights come standard with a hexagonal design.
  • Two-speed windshield wipers with variable-intermittent mode and a mist feature
  • Single-speed rear window wiper with fixed-intermittent mode
  • Raised roof rails

All Outback models have a large 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen, except for the base Outback model, which features two stacked 7.0-inch touchscreens. The big screen has a rotating volume and tuning knob, several physical climate-settings buttons, large touch icons, and quick response times, all enhancing the ease of operation.

The infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto integration, although a wireless device charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, and built-in navigation are available. The Touring trim and top-tier Limited levels have a 12-speaker, 576-watt Harman Kardon audio system.
