Subaru Solterra: Subaru's First All-Electric Vehicle
Subaru partnered with Toyota to create its first ever EV. There was speculation that the compact crossover would be a modified Forester, but Subaru did more than that on this model. As expected from a Subaru vehicle, the new Solterra features standard all-wheel drive so that you can take it off the road near Milford without worry.
Performance
The new Solterra has an all-wheel drive system with two electric motors. The motors can generate 215 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. This model deploys this power differently depending on the driving mode you choose. There are four driving modes: Eco, Normal and Power. With these modes, you can drive on slippery conditions, uneven terrain and snow with ease by using X-MODE to select how you want your Solterra to drive.
You can drive the crossover off the road, thanks to its 8.3-inch ground clearance and its Grip Control feature. This feature allows low-speed cruise control. It also has paddles on the steering wheel from where you can adjust the regenerative braking force.
The battery on the Solterra is large enough to power the vehicle for up to 220 miles. It is compatible with DC fast chargers, so you never have to worry of running out of power while on the roads of Londonberry. The DC fast charger can fill 80 percent of the battery in less an hour.
The styling of the new Solterra makes it highly aerodynamic. Its twin liftgate spoilers help manage airflow for better driving. Further, Subaru offers StarDrive with One-Pedal and Sport Driving to give you torque when you need it regardless of the driving speed. Features such as this, paddle shifters and regenerative braking ensure you have a great driving experience throughout Merrimack.
Technology
Solterra offers advanced connectivity features. For starters, the Solterra has a 12.3-inch multimedia system that can link to your smartphone through wireless connection. It also features a wireless charger for your smartphones. Subaru offers a digital key function and a fully automatic park function.
To offer even more convenience, Solterra offers a smartphone app, which you can use to operate the vehicle windows, set the climate control temperature and lock or unlock vehicle doors. Every Solterra offers standard features, such as:

Interior
The Solterra sports a denim cloth dashboard, a glossy black center console and some soft plastic touchpoints. Its interior trim gives it a lovely eco-friendly vibe. Even with the battery raising the floor of the Solterra, the crossover still offers enough seating space for taller passengers.
The steering wheel and the cluster display feature a futuristic design. Subaru EyeSight® offers a suite of driver-assistance features, including:
- Adaptive cruise control
- Forward collision mitigation
- Lane keeping assist
Behind the rear seats, the Solterra has 27.7 cubic feet of cargo space. You can slide the floor of the Solterra to a lower setting to increase the cargo space to 30.3 cubic feet, beating the Forester's 28.9 cubic feet storage. If you need more storage for your next Nashua adventure, you can add roof rails to the Solterra.
Exterior
The 20-inch alloy wheels with machine finish accents give the Solterra a distinct contemporary style. It has the advanced features for driving on all terrains without compromising on aerodynamics and styling. Its twin liftgate spoilers enhance airflow to keep the vehicle aerodynamic. It also features a full underbody tray that helps muffle the outside world and allows a quiet ride around Merrimack regardless of the driving conditions.
Features such as LED headlights and LED taillights and daytime running lights are standard on the Solterra, giving it a beautifully elegant look.
